How to Complete and Submit Assignments

Each lesson requires you to complete a Word document that contains your assignment. You can find the assignments using the lesson’s Assignment link in the Syllabus or by looking in the list of assignments in the Assignments page.

For each assignment, you will need to click on the document link and save the file to your computer. Then open the document, fill in your responses, and save your work. Please save your document under a new file name such as "12E_YourLastName_Lesson1". When you are done, return to the Assignment page and click "Submit Assignment" at the top right of the assignment page. In the “File Upload” area, click "Browse" to find your file. Select the file and click "Open." Finally, click “Submit Assignment.” to submit the assignment for grading. Be sure to save a copy of the file on your computer.

Each lesson’s assignment consists of two parts: an outline and questions. Loosely structured, the outline will allow you to ease your way into each lesson’s reading assignment by helping you easily follow the sections in each assigned textbook chapter. The outline will provide you with a good overview of each chapter, so be sure to complete the outline before you begin the questions. The questions will provide you with an in-depth study of each textbook chapter. Remember, you must complete both the outline and questions and submit both for grading. Note that lessons 1, 2, 6, and 9 include a lab component that you will need to complete as well.

Follow these guidelines when completing and submitting the assignments:

  1. Be sure to complete all parts of each assignment. An incomplete assignment will be returned to you to finish. One or two unanswered questions may substantially lower your grade on the assignment. If you don’t fully understand a question, either answer the question as best you can or try to explain why you are confused by the question. Your instructor will do his/her best to write an explanation when grading the assignment.
  2. Answer all assignment questions as fully as possible. The purpose of each question is to have you explain a concept or idea to yourself. Therefore, use your own words and include as much detail as possible.
  3. Correct spelling and proper grammar are important; mistakes in these areas will cost you points. Be sure to answer in complete sentences unless a single-word answer is specifically asked for.
  4. Write any questions or comments you have concerning the lesson or the course at the end of the assignment.
  5. I recommend you await the return of one lesson’s assignment before submitting the next lesson’s assignment. Questions in some lessons depend on a previous lesson. By waiting to see your instructor’s comments on a lesson’s assignment, you can perhaps avoid an error on the next lesson.
